Szifra Birke

Jay and his wife Szifra (pronounced shifra) Birke have built individual practices over their professional careers. Because clients knew them through their businesses, Jay and Szifra decided to maintain separate practices even while they work together closely, in fact jointly with many clients.

Jay practices with Szifra as part of Birke Consulting, and Szifra works with Jay on specific projects as a principal of Livingston Services. They are thus separate but equal. You may find it informative to explore the details of Birke Consulting as a compliment or option to Jay’s services.

Many clients are referred to one or the other but end up working with both or being referred to the other. We are always open to helping you connect with the coach who is a best fit for you. Please see Professional Partners and Professional Resources for additional individuals that we are happy to introduce you to.
And may I introduce you to Szifra Birke:

Szifra has been in private practices for over 25 years. She is currently a life coach and a consultant to service professionals and small business owners

While building successful practices in three different cities, out of necessity Szifra became a student of the business aspects of self-employment. Szifra now coaches therapists and coaches on practice development. These practical-minded clinicians tap into her years of experience and interest in both doing good and making a satisfactory living.
Highly motivated medical, dental, legal and wealth professionals as well as small business owners, puzzled by their clients’ and customers’ attitudes and decisions, come to Szifra for an effective approach to learning listening skills and to strive to develop insight into other people’s motivation, etc. Her practice has a special focus on the difficulties brought about by the way emotions affect financial behavior at work and at home.

Szifra is effective at creating public awareness as a marketing tool for clients. Over the years she has placed client stories or personally appeared in BusinessWeek, Cosmo, The Boston Globe and on local, regional and national TV. She has had her own television show for ten years. She creates strategies for clients who find it difficult to effectively marketing their services and products.

With Kathy Mayer, she co-authored the book, Together We Heal, the first self-help exploration written on Adult Children of Alcoholic’s group therapy. PBS excerpted this book to create a booklet that accompanied a Bill Moyers’ national television program.

Szifra earned a BA in Psychology and Education from Boston University, and an MS in Professional Counseling from Purdue University. She grew up fully involved in her family’s retail business and has co-owned a number of other small businesses over the years.
